No Bones  About It - New Tires Matter

After 25 years selling new tires in MyTown, we thought we’d seen everything cars, light trucks, and SUVs could throw at us when it came to tires. We were in for a surprise.

It was close to closing time and a customer came in complaining of a smacking noise coming from the front of her car.

I had one of the guys take a look, and I could hear it as he was pulling her car into the shop. A few minutes later, the guys were laughing out there.

Now it’s not our way to laugh at customer problems, so I had to go see what was so funny.

It was a T-bone.

That’s right, a T-bone, as in what comes in a steak—minus the meat. It was just the bone. And it was sticking right through the inside sidewall of her tire as if someone had pounded it in there like a nail.

I knew she’d never believe it, so we brought her out to have a look, too. She was about my age, and she had to admit, she’d never needed new tires because of a T-bone in all her life.

Like I said up top, I’ve been selling tires and tire service for years. Goodyear, BF Goodrich, Toyo, Nitto, Yokohama, you name it, I’ve pulled every kind of nail, screw, and sharp stick you can think of out of them. But have never seen a T-bone.
